TEACHING YOUR CHILD ABOUT PERSONAL BOUNDARIES

It is important to teach children about personal boundaries and what they can do in situations that make them uncomfortable. Personal boundaries refer to the physical space around someone and how physically close to someone else they can get before feeling uncomfortable.

Personal boundaries also refer to what kinds of physical contact (e.g., high five, pat on the back, hug, and kiss) a person is comfortable with from other people. This level of comfort can vary from one person to the next. For example, a child may be okay with a kiss from a parent but not from an aunt.
